Celebrating Sir Kenneth Grange at 90 Years

Last week Anglepoise was proud to host a very special event to celebrate the 90th Birthday of our design director, Sir Kenneth Grange. An intimate gathering of friends, former colleagues, design acolytes and well-wishers from across the industry assembled at the Margaret Howell flagship store on London’s Wigmore Street for the occasion. In order to fully understand the breadth of Kenneth’s achievements, there is perhaps no better way than through the words of esteemed journalist Barbara Chandler, Design Editor for the Evening Standard:

He can come to London on his “own” train, having first made a quick cup of tea in his “own kettle” (plus a slice of cake from his own mixer). He is wearing his “own” shirt, with his “own” pen and “own” sunglasses in the pocket – and maybe his “own” camera in his pocket. He queues for a bus under his “own” bus shelter, but then takes his “own” taxi…and so on.

Best love, Barbara…with keyboard illuminated by Anglepoise.

After 65 years (and counting) at the drawing board, he really is the complete designer and a truly modern man.

Deyan Sudjic, the director of the Design Museum, presented an oil painting portrait of Kenneth by award-winning artist Danny Howes.

A special postcard set was also created for the occasion, celebrating many of his most recognisable designs over the decades, with an introduction by Simon Terry – Managing Director of Anglepoise. Meanwhile, in September 2019 Kenneth’s latest design for Anglepoise will be launched, the landmark Type 80 Collection. You can also find out more about Kenneth here
