Founded in Hull by George Frederick Smith in 1885, not long after Anglepoise® family company Herbert Terry and Sons was established, longtime passionate pioneer of the paper industry G. F. Smith, has become Britain’s foremost supplier of specialist paper to the creative industries. So, when Anglepoise® was invited to participate in G. F. Smith’s ‘Paper City’ pop-up to celebrate the World’s Favourite Colour we were intrigued …
To mark Hull UK City of Culture 2017, G. F. Smith resolved to find the World’s Favourite Colour, voted by the public. An imposing Original 1227™ Giant floor lamp in Marrs Green is now displayed in the Hull pop-up shop, available to order alongside a series of custom- coloured products from brands we admire, including Tokyobike, Cambridge Satchel Company, Sunspel – and of course, G. F. Smith. A ‘Paper City’ exhibition, a series of paper installations by eight leading creatives commissioned by G. F. Smith, runs concurrently in nearby Fruit Market and includes one installation by Hull-based design company Made in Thought to showcase the World’s Favourite Colour. Both exhibition and pop-up are in Hull until 9th July before moving to G. F. Smith’s Show Space in London on 12th July.
